There will be one course in the Fall and another in the Spring. We will talk about recommended materials but we would ask you to have the basics to enable you to take part. Subjects covered will include -
The importance of the proportion of water and paint, handling brushes
Brushes – sable or synthetic, care of brushes
Papers – Rough, cold press or hot press
Paints, colors and setting out your palette
The color wheel and complimentary colors
Warm and cool colors, granulation, transparency, staining, permanency
Mixing – on the palette, the paper and your brush
Highlights, reserving whites, using miskit, white paints, correcting mistakes
Creating volume, shadows and shapes
You will have the opportunity to discover how watercolor works and create some basic compositions of your own. We will stop for lunch and you can bring your own or there is a coffee shop over the road with food. The course will include tutor instruction and demonstration as well as practical work for you to explore techniques.
