Art Programs for Youth in the Coachella ValleySupporting Emerging Artists with Foundational Basics A key mission of the Desert Art Center is to provide arts education for students within the Coachella Valley, working to fill the void that public education struggles to fill. Collaborating with Palm Springs Unified School District, our outreach encompasses middle school- and high school-aged students from the communities of Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Desert Hot Springs. |
Middle School Art Program (MSAP)Providing the Basics to Accelerate Student Success in the Visual Arts Desert Art Center provides free, hands-on art classes in painting, ceramics, animation, and more — all led by professional instructors at the Desert Art Center. The program strives to provide fundamental art instruction that is engaging, fun, builds self-esteem and social skills. By focusing on the foundational art skills, students will be able to continue their arts education with greater success through high school and beyond. Divided into three terms: September – October; October – November; and January – February. Each module lasts four to six weeks with each class being three hours. DAC has been supporting the MSAP for ver 25 years. This program is made possible through the generosity of the Anderson Children’s Foundation. | The 25/26 term dates are:1st Term

High School Art Program (HSAP)Creating College-Level Visual Arts Portfolios in High Schools The High School Art Program is a college art portfolio program offered on Saturday afternoons. Students are taught the foundations in visual arts to aid them in successfully pursuing a degree and subsequent career in the arts. Students are guided through hands-on skills and techniques as well as the ins-and-outs of presentation, participating in exhibitions, creating relationships with long-time professional artists in the community, including exposure to entry-level experiences to build resources and confidence. | The HSAP is open to any high school students. Divided into three terms: September – October; October – November; and January – February. Each module lasts four to six weeks with each class being three hours. DAC started the HSAP in 2024, and is generously funded by the Reed Arts Foundation. |
DAC Palm Springs Unified School District Student Art ShowRewarding Outstanding Students and High School Visual Arts Programs Each season, DAC collaborates with area high schools encouraging them to submit are for the annual Palm Springs Unified School District Art Show. Generously funded by our membership base and the greater community, DAC provides $10,000 in art supplies to area high school visual arts programs to use at their art department’s discretion. |
