Art Experience: A Celebration of Crafts with Darleen Wilkerson and Ron Taylor

  • 10/29/2016
  • 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM
  • DAC Auditorium: refreshments following

In recognition of American Craft Week, October 1-16, 2016, the Desert Art Center will be displaying and learning about some of our members fine crafts.  Two of our members,  Darlene Wilkerson and Ron Taylor will be presenting their work.

This is open to the public and will be held in our auditorium from 1:30-3pm

Darlene will discuss and present her Batik art.

Batik requires using multiple techniques. First - apply wax to areas that will remain white. Next, dye the cloth or paper the lightest color first. Wax parts of this first color. Dye the cloth or paper a 2nd color. Repeat the process of applying dye and painting wax onto areas to remain the desired color.

Ron, an artist and jeweler, will present his work in metal clay.

Metal clay is a mixture of microscopic-size particles of metal in an organic matrix.  It looks and feels like ordinary clay.  Once the design is completed and dried, the piece is placed in a kiln where, under high temperature, the organic matrix burns completely away and the metal particles fuse, leaving a piece that is pure metal.
